The MRCF’s Biomedical Translation Fund (MRCF BTF) has agreed to invest up to AU$20M in a new biotech company, Perth-based Respirion Pharmaceuticals
Respirion is developing a promising new therapy for the treatment of infections in Cystic Fibrosis, a life-threatening disease that limits a patient’s ability to breathe over time
The technology was invented by a leading Australian pulmonary specialist, Dr Barry Clements. Initial clinical trials, in collaboration with the Telethon Kids Institute and the Western Australian Department of Health, showed a significant improvement in lung function using Respirion therapy
The US Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has committed up to US$3M to help fund the drug’s development
